“ArcheTalky” iOS App Released by XLGAMES
XLGAMES isn’t a one-game, CryENGINE-only developer. That much was made clear last year when Jake Song signed a deal with Take-Two Interactive to develop a game for them. It also seems that XLGAMES has a strong mobile app development team, as they’ve got a couple entries in the iOS App Store for some eclectic minigames and apps they’ve developed over the past year or so.
Well one more feather was just added to XLGAME’s hat of tricks: ArcheTalky, a app that appears to help keep ArcheAge players in contact with their friends and guilds while away from their keyboards or otherwise unable to access the game. This is real-time chat, and it’s a good sign that XLGAMES has plans for future integrated apps.
Remember that video with the french maid assistant NPC?
Anyhow, here’s the full descriptions and screenshots from the iOS App Store.

Welcome to 2012! Beware the Kraken.
Congratulations ArcheAge fans, you made it to 2012! Sometime in this new year ArcheAge should be released for retail sale in South Korea (potentially in China and some other territories too). While there’s still no word from XLGAMES about who in North America and Europe will publish our favorite MMO, it’s probably safe to assume that we’ll find out sometime this year.
The past couple weeks have been a blur for the dedicated folks who have been participating in ArcheAge’s CBT4. Betacake’s staff has been posting videos and reviews while BOON Control guild members have written up some really helpful guides for players who are a bit confused about how some of ArcheAge’s more intricate mechanics work. Even broader gaming news sites like Massively and Steparu have increased their output of ArcheAge-related articles, which has helped increase the game’s name recognition quite dramatically among MMORPG fans.
Just this week we were alerted to an article about ArcheAge in Beckett Massive Online Gamer, a real printed western magazine. ArcheAgeSource.com staff nabbed a copy of the Jan/Feb 2012 issue and scanned the three pages that they cared about. While the article doesn’t have much new information in it (if any), it’s still strong physical proof that XLGAMES is serious about getting their game into the hands of fans worldwide.
Howdy folks, we’ve got some great news to share with you all today! Thanks to member Turmain alerting us in a thread on the forums, we heard that there was an article about ArcheAge printed in the Jan/Feb 2012 edition of Beckett Massive Online Gamer. As far as we can tell, this is the first time ArcheAge has been mentioned in the western printed media!
Every ArcheAge fan should get to witness this event, so we went on a quest to find and scan the article. The results can be viewed below. If you want to buy the magazine, visit this link. We’re not trying to take money out of Beckett’s pockets, we just want the world to see this one article.
Finally, the official ArcheAge YouTube account just made public a third weekly recap video detailing (in Korean) some awesome naval features. Note to self: the ship-busting Kraken isn’t to be trifled with!
New Screenshots from ArcheAge.com
Well what do we have here? A fresh new batch of screenshots showing off some of the features players can expect to see during CBT4? Yes, that’s exactly what we have! How’d you know?
Anyhow, it looks like we’ll get a new ship type to sail on (likely meant for quick transportation), new locales to explore (Hariharan towns, mountains), the infamous upside-down hang glider, and more!
Three more ArcheAge races revealed!
The ArcheAge community has known the names of all eight races for a long time, but we weren’t sure what they all looked like. With these three images, now we can easily recognize all but two of ArcheAge’s eight planned races! Those last two races, however, have also been revealed in a roundabout way…
The Hariharans are humans like the Nuians, but they hate each others’ guts (the reasons behind the Hariharan schism haven’t been revealed yet). Hariharans are very Eastern fantasy themed compared to the more Western fantasy trope that the Nuians embody, and they also happen to preside over ArcheAge’s eastern continent, uniting the races that live there under a single banner. This race values family, responsibility and respect above all else, and prefers to use lighter weapons and armor than the Nuians.
Dwarves in ArcheAge are similar to Dwarves in other games. Really, any other kind of Dwarf would probably cause Tolkien to rise from the dead and kill us all. They’re stubborn people who love precious metals and gems, but they’re also skilled warriors who will stand valiantly alongside their friends in the face of danger. They prefer to live in mountain caves, building complex villages and structures while mining for anything that shines.
And finally, the Warborn are revealed. A long time ago we posted an image of what we thought the Warborn would look like. Turns out we were mostly correct. Warborn are neither demons nor humans, but a gigantic race who excel at killing things (such as dragons). No one knows for sure where they came from, not even Warborn elders, so they’ve joined the effort to discover the lost history of ArcheAge’s world on the northern continent in an attempt to learn more about themselves.
The last two races will probably be Fairies and some kind of necromantic race. Click the image below.

Update: fixed some typos.
ArcheAge Book “The Fir and the Hawk” Available Soon
Everyone who has an account on ArcheAge.com should have gotten an email today that detailed a contest based on a book, but not just any dusty old hardback…no, this is ArcheAge’s first official tome of lore!
The Fir and the Hawk (전나무와 매) is written by Min-Hee Jeon (전민희), a popular Korean fantasy novelist and ArcheAge’s main lore visionary. The book is on its way to bookstores now, with the planned release date sometime next week, but ArcheAge fans can preorder it right now via Aladin.co.kr or AladinUS.com (Aladin is basically Amazon).
In the book, Min-Hee Jeon spins stories set roughly 2000 years in the past, fleshing out details of ArcheAge’s ancient lore, including the reasons behind the schism between the Nuian and Harihari tribes. The book is meant to be a supplement to the lore included inside ArcheAge itself, helping to explain bits and pieces that wouldn’t normally be known. In this sense the book was written for fans of the game, but anyone can pick up the book and enjoy it even without playing ArcheAge itself.
